Getting strong and fast is a crucial part of golf performance, but it needs to be earned. It's easy to get caught up with how the pros train in the gym, but that approach most likely isn't right for you...right now. Understanding the importance of a tailored approach to training can make all the difference in your development as a golfer.


The Allure of Professional Training

When watching professional golfers, it’s tempting to emulate their training routines. They often showcase impressive strength and speed, which can be captivating. However, these athletes have years of experience, specialized coaching, and personalized training programs designed specifically for their bodies and skills. Attempting to replicate their routines without considering your own unique needs can lead to frustration, injury, and burnout.





Assessing Your Current Fitness Level

Before diving into a training program, it's essential to assess your current fitness level. This includes understanding your strength, flexibility, endurance, and any physical limitations you may have. A well-rounded golf fitness program should address these areas, focusing on building a solid foundation before moving on to more advanced training.

I would argue that technique is just as important as following strength and speed protocols. 

Poor form can lead to injuries and hinder your performance. Prioritize learning the correct techniques for exercises and golf swings. Consider working with a swing coach and a fitness trainer who understands the specific demands of golf.  This ensures a well rounded and cohesive approach to training your skills safely and effectively while moving forward with common goals relating to your body and swing. 



Listening to Your Body

As you embark on your journey to becoming stronger and faster, it’s crucial to listen to your body. Pushing through pain or discomfort can lead to setbacks. Ensure you incorporate rest and recovery into your training regimen, allowing your body to adapt and grow stronger over time.  It’s not about training hard every day.  Gains are made during recovery.  Strength and speed protocols must include days off, active mobility on rest days and cardiovascular conditioning.  Following a strategic plan will ensure you can continue training long term and not get taken out due to fatigue or overuse.
